DISABLED AIDS AND GENERAL ENGINEERING (DAGE) PROFILE 1.0 INTRODUCTION. Disabled Aids and General Engineering (DAGE) is a registered small skale organization situated in Dar es salaam,Tanzania,East Africa.It was established in the year 2000 from a former group known as Tricycle workshop,which specialized in the production of Tricycles only for people with disabilities only since 1977. DAGE is owned and run by six members out of whom five are People with disabilities and the 6th one is not a disabled.We all received training on Mobility Aids manufacturing technology from different institutions like Yombo Rehabilitation centre based in Dar es salaam where Patrick Mdachi,Abdallah Omari,Galus Burian and Jacob Chaula were trained Eng Henry Chacha was trained at RESCU sheltered employment based in Harare,Zimbabwe.The sixth member ,Dr Erasto Elias was trained in Mechanical Engineering Design and Bioengineering(Orthotics) to the level of Ph.D degree at the university of Dar es salaam.He is very interested and concerned with afairs of People with disabilities. We have abundant experiences onmobility apliances and other mechanical engineering works. 2.0 OBJECTIVES The main objectives for establishing DAGE are; (i) (ii) To be self employed and alleviate poverty based on our skills and knowledge To enhance the movement and working capability of people with disabilities by designing and making mobility Aids by utilizing appropriate technology. (iii) (iv) To design and manufacture various general Engineering machines and spare parts in order to fulfill the needs of the society To provide technical advice,knowledge and skills to any needy of the society especially people with disabilities. 3.0 DAGE’S STRENGTH. Since the establishment of DAGE in the year 2000,we have managed to do the fllowing;- (i) Getting morden machineries and technology by training some of our members in high learning institutions like University of Dar es salaam(Business school),Small Industries Development Organization(SIDO),Brother’s Academy,several other international organisations with similar projects. (ii)To enhance the movement and working capability of people with disabilities by designing and making appropriate mobility for them.This mobility aids are Tricycles,wheelchairs,calipers,crutches,orthopaedi c shoes,etc. (iii) (iv) To design and manufacture various general engineering machines and spare parts to fulfill the needs of the society.Such machines include maize milling machies,agricultural tools and machinery,domestick tools and appliances etc1 To provide technical knowledge and skills to the needy in the general public but the first priority given to people with disability 4.0 VISION DAGE seeks to ensure that every person with disability in Tanzania especially the poor and those living in rural areas have access to good mobility aid. 4.1 MISSION The mission of DAGE is to “to empower people with disabilities from grassroots level ,to function independently by assisting them to fight against poverty and enabling them to access appropriate mobility aids so that they can participate on socioeconomic activities. 4.2 GOAL The main goal of DAGE is to improve the standard of living of people with disabilities and the aged by designing and making mobility aids for them. 5.0 DAGE’S STATEMENT “Suport people with disabilities by giving them mobility appliances so that they can get involved insocial economic activities for their sustainable development” “ 6.0 LOCATION OF THE COMPANY The company (office and workshop) is situated at SIDO-DSM Industrial Estate which is along Nyrere Road block 13G Miembeni street,Vingunguti,Dar es salaam,Tanzania,East Africa. 7.0 FLOOR SIZE OF THE COMPANY. Our company has a floor size of 230.15 square metres in which there is a store for raw materials and spare parts,an office and workshop. We have already bought a Land about 1001 square metresat Buyuni areas Chanika.We have already started the construction of a modern workshop and is about 80% comlete. 8.0 MACHINES AND EQUIPMENTS. The company possesses a number of machines and equipments which enables easy productions despite the old version situation.Our future plan is to buy modern machines as the technology is advancing every now and then. Currently we have the following machines;-  Metal cutting machines  Surface grinder  Shaping machines  Guilotin machine (Heavy duty)  Press machines(5 tones.10 tones and 30 tones)  Welding machines  Pipe bending machines  Angle grinder  Bench grinder  Power and hand drilling machines  Air compressor  Hand tools Almost 90% of these machines are second hand,donated or sold at a very low price to our company by good Samaritans. The company does not so far have working capital necessary for developing the company STRUCTURE. 9.0 FUTURE PLAN There is a high demand of Electric Mobility aids in Tanzania.Themost available are imported from abroad and they sold in a very high price that a normal person with disability can not afford to buy by himself. We are seeking for expert students who are dealing with Electric or Electronics mobility from Netherlands who will assist us to get the project running effectively. Currently the price of the imported one is Tshs.500,000 to Tshs.7mil equivalent to 200usd to 2,800 usd.If we manufacture them here in Tanzania,the price will be almost ahalf of it.We kindly request you to find students from your Netherlands who are willing to work on the challenge. They will tech us for at least one month and there after we will be able to carry on with the project.
